Chapter 8
At the end of that whole nightmare that took place in my living room, I was left wondering if Grace just enjoyed lying to me instead of it being a chronic condition. It was a very civil conversation she had with my family and there was only one thing that stood out to me. When my mother mentioned the Sutterheim Hotel, she did not tell her that her father was the owner or the story behind it. Why wouldnât she do that? Was she lying about it? Then how did she not pay for dinner at the hotelâs restaurant and how did she get a suite in such a famous hotel which would naturally have the suites booked out, and how was she able to ask for my car to be ready and they did it without hearing from me? Did she do those things as a guest? I had so many questions and I would get the answers for them all as soon as I was far away from my house and the people who were still in it.
I had sat and waited patiently as the family threw themselves at Graceâs feet. They were mesmerized by her as most people were because she was charming and confident and stunningly beautiful, and my mother was already seeing the beautiful babies we would have together. I felt so bad for them that they forced their way in and found a glimmer of hope that would not be coming true. I would take no responsibility for their heartbreaks because I made myself very clear. I was on my way to Graceâs house to drop her off and turn the car right around. She was quiet beside me and I knew she wasnât happy that she didnât get to spend a longer time at my house. She didnât even get to see my bedroom where I was sure she would have tried to fuck me.
âAre you okay?â I asked as I came to a light.
âNo.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
âI wasnât finished talking with your family,â she said.
âI sat there for an hour while you people rambled along.â
âI didnât get to see your bedroom and the rest of the house,â she said.
âBut youâll get another chance to come back.â
âWhen?â she asked, and she was so sad that I wanted to hug her.
âWhen do you want?â I asked and she smiled a little.
âTomorrow. For dinner,â she said.
âThen you and I will have dinner together tomorrow,â I said and she smiled. âWeâre sex partners and we will be spending a lot of time together.â
âI would like that.â
âAre you going to your office tomorrow?â I asked.
âIâm not a doctor, Leanne. I already told you.â
âIâm talking about at your fatherâs head office.â
âUmâ¦no. I have a lunch date tomorrow,â she said.
âBusiness lunch date?â
âNo. With someone. You said we could both see other people, right?â
âOf course. Whoâs she?â I asked and swallowed hard.
âSomeone I met on a business trip with my dad. She has been asking me out to lunch but I kept putting her off.
